Ouroborus Issue 24 - Frazetta Tribute
Just a quick post that Steven has mailed the Frazetta Tribute issue with CD of images inserted in each copy for the next FAPA mailing. I hope everybody enjoys it and we look forward to reading the August mailing!

Shelby Vick
We got an email saying Shelby Vick needed $1,500 Dollars sent to him in the UK because he lost his wallet.
For several reasons I think this is a false email.
Anybody else get this?

Thanks, Eric. I've added a message to Langley's family in the guest book accessible from that site, and am blind-copying all of FAPA so that they might view this NY Times notice and, if desired, also sign the guest book.

Egoboo voting
This mailing arrived and I think Robert did a great job, esp. since Milt did it so well for years and set the expectations high.

Although for the last 2 times our names were not on the list of who had voted, we did vote by email. We plan to vote this year as well. Deadline is April 21.

Bookstore find
Yesterday I was at Half-Price books selling some magazines.  While waiting for them to make me an offer, I was browsing through the science fiction section.  I came across an old issue of Analog (September 1974) that they were selling for a dollar, and on a whim decided to buy it.  I was exceedingly pleased to get it home and start reading it, at which point I discovered that the cover story was "The Raven and the Hawk" by William Rotsler and that the lettercol contained a letter about the SFRA from Fred Lerner!  As you might imagine, I'm feeling pretty pleased with my find.

Jack Speer (1920-2008)

Have just returned from two weeks in North Yorkshire and a long weekend in South Wales to find Ansible #252 waiting for me with this sad news:

"Jack Speer (1920-2008), long-time US fan who produced the first history of fandom, Up To Now (1939), and the original Fancyclopedia (1944), died on 28 June aged 87. He was a Fan GoH at the 2004 Worldcon, and the last surviving founder member of FAPA. [RL]"

Have a good trip, Jack. I look forward to the second edition of the Ten Commandments, soon as you've briefed God on all the grammatical errors in the original.

Oh Emperor, where art thou?

I was just wondering if His Imperial Majesty Bob and others were planning on joining?

Fancyclopedia Update

Jim Caughran writes:

"Jean Weber ably documents fan funds, GUFF and DUFF.

"Who would like to bring the TAFF article up to date?"

As previously mentioned, Robert Lichtman has also recently updated the FAPA article.

Recruitment Drive [2]

Further to my initial mailing, Jason Burnett has reportedly sent off his $25 to rejoin, Brant Kresovich has sent off for a sample mailing (but is pretty sold on joining) and Peter Sullivan is about to do likewise. Sadly, Eric Mayer has waved farewell to paper fanac, but we have had tentative interest from ex-member Alyson L Abramowitz.

Edit 1: Meanwhile, I've also e-mailed Lenny Bailes (whose seventh Whistlestar landed yesterday), Eve Ackerman (who's unfortunately too busy with SFPA to contemplate another apazine), Richard Brandt, Nic Farey and Alan White.

Edit 2: Plus, Canada's own Farrell McGovern seems rather interested in joining.

FAPA: A History

Robert Lichtman, FAPA Sec-Treas, has just updated the FAPA entry over at the ongoing Fancyclopedia 3 website. You can read it here.

If we do go ahead with a FAPAthology, this would seem to be a dead cert insert.
